Hillside Prairie Gardens rests on a hillside overlooking the Sioux River Wetlands on the plains of eastern South Dakota. The small-scale, diversified farm is owned and operated by the Helling family; and two years ago in the summer of '09, was re-established by brothers Jacob and Andrew as a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. The farm has existed in different capacities since the early 1970's, when Steve and May Kay Helling, in search of an alternative, more sustainable lifestyle, purchased a seven-acre plot eight miles south of Brookings, SD. Now nearly 40 years later, the gardens rest on this same hillside and on the same genuine principles of dealing locally and acting sustainably. Our produce comes to you at its freshest, free of chemicals, pesticides, and artificial fertilizers of any kind. We're as close to organic as you can get without the label.
